German Sex Ed January 4, 2007
Ever wonder how our german friends teach their children about the birds and bees? No no, it’s not as simple as the Vögel und die Bienen (that’s how you say birds and bees in german according to my computer’s trusty translator). It’s a little more graphic than that. All this from the germans - who would have thought??
yes we of the deutsche persuasion tend to explain the facts of life in graphic detail. Perhaps to an unnecessary extent. My favourite bedtime story growing up was a book about thumb-sucking. To sum it up briefly, a young prince liked to suck his thumbs to his parents dismay. They eventually had enough and ordered the court gesture to cut the prince’s thumbs off when he was sleeping with a pair of hedgeclippers. The cartoons even showed the squirting blood and dismembered thumbs on the ground. So i guess teaching our youngsters life’s lessons isnt exactly a kraut’s forte. It is pretty effective though, cuz i never dared sucked my thumbs…but i sure enjoyed chasing my sister around the yard with hedgeclippers.
