sorry, we’re closed. February 16, 2007

Filed under: breaking news — pat fugaze @ 5:25 pm

friends, countrymen, fugazors…..

as you have probably all noticed, the action on fugaze.com as of late has been, well, fugaze. i think we’re all guilty of neglecting that which is fugaze in the online space (we of course are always fugaze in our day to day lives). i don’t think any of this is due to any one person’s lack of effort or what have you. i think we’ve all just lost the passion. and that’s okay.

we used to have all the time in the world to come up with new ideas or write stories for the site when we were in college (or like me, at a job where i fucked the dog 40 hrs a week). but i think we’ve all crossed that bridge now and probably find it’s harder to spend hours a day to smoke bongos and scour the internet looking for fugaze shit or writing fugaze stories.

that’s why today, february 16th 2007, fugaze inc will be closing it’s doors.

the site will still be here, and if anyone has any ideas of how we should use this space i’m all ears. i renewed the domain just last month so we have that secured for another 2 years. although i think i may be cutting off the hosting services starting next month. there’s just no point in spending $15 a month if it’s just going to sit there. yes, believe it or not, fugaze has been in the red since it started.

i would like to thank everyone for their efforts over the past 2+ years. it was good while it lasted. that’s why i think we owe it a proper burial instead of letting it rott away in it’s current state.

bye for now.

Not the Only Fugazor on TV This Week January 29, 2007

Filed under: breaking news — pat fugaze @ 10:37 pm

It seems that the tube is love people in fugaze land, and those in the fugaze extended network, this week. A buddy of mine, John Carson, decided to start a new blog after he unfortunately found himself out of work a little while back. The blog, makejohnnycash.blogspot.com, is about his quest to find a new gig. It’s also become a nifty little way to market himself. So nifty, in fact, that City TV decided to do a story on him last night!

Well done Johnny! (that’s his fugaze.com screen name, btw)

Check it out.

Have you heard of the indie blipster? January 28, 2007

Filed under: breaking news — preems @ 12:38 pm

Neither had I until I read this article. A “blipster” is, according to the Urban Dictionary, a black hipster.

But here’s the thing about blipsters…

They often get confused as securtiy guards at rock shows and are seen as Uncle Tom’s in the black hip hop community, so they really don’t fit in anywere. To find out more, go here:

Degrees of Difficulty January 26, 2007

Mark Richardson, of pitchfork fame, is, well at least in my opinion, one of the best music columnists around. For those needing a refresher, he wrote the article on music critics that I posted a while back. Anyways, today he tackles the pleasures (?) of the difficult album. It’s an interesting read, so check it out if you’re into that kind of thing.

Rage Reunion!!! January 21, 2007

Filed under: breaking news — pat fugaze @ 10:46 pm

I definitely didn’t see this one coming, but I’m sure glad it’s happening! According to the LA Times, Rage Against the Fucking Machine will be reuniting for 1 show - this year’s Coachella Festival. It’s good to know that Zach de la Rocha is still alive, and it’s also good to know that the rest of the guys in the band haven’t become complete pussies from being in Audioslave.
Fuck those Coachella fuckers are so lucky. Even though I can’t stand festivals anymore, I’d really like to check that one out one day.

TNP on CBC - So Key!! January 17, 2007

Filed under: breaking news — pat fugaze @ 3:40 pm

Sometimes it pays to have friends in high places….or at least at the CBC. Thanks to fugaze editor Jesse Campigotto, the fugaze crew will be seen next week on CBC’s The National, with Peter “Fucking” Mansbridge!

The actual story that they are airing is about a poker player from Toronto who placed second and took home a cool $1.9 mill at a WPT Tournament last summer. He made it this far even though he was just an amateur stacked up against some heavy duty pros.

This is where fugaze comes in.

Turns out the story needed some extra footage and they really want to play up the whole amateur side of the story. Jcamp got to talking to the guy, and next thing you know our Tuesday Night Poker room at Casa d’Wenn is being transformed into the set of the shoot (which looks way fuckin cooler when there are really expensive tv lights in there).

Long story short, tune in next week to the national. We’re not sure which day it is airing yet - we’ll keep you posted! Keep your eye out for Mr Wenn’s fugaze shirt!

Romo Is Still My Hero January 7, 2007

Filed under: breaking news, sports, football — pat fugaze @ 1:48 pm

I just want to take a quick second to acknowledge what happened last night in the Cowboys vs Seahawks Playoff game.

I didn’t even see the game live. I had concert tickets so I decided to tape the game (can’t remember the last time I did that). I let all my football friends know this so they wouldn’t call me or send me any spoiler text messages. I got home just after midnight and pushed play as soon as I could.

What unfolded over the next three hours was one of the most intense football games I’ve seen in a long time. Both teams were balls to the wall and the lead was going back and forth between them all game. After a bizarre second half, with the Shithawks, I mean Seahawks, leading 21-20 (1 point!!) the Cowboys marched down the field to win the game. They got as far as the Seahawks 3 yrd line, but were left with a 4th and 1 scenario. The Cowboys simply needed to kick an easy field goal and stop the Seahawks from scoring in the remaining 1 minute of the game.

This is when the shit went down

Out came the Dallas field goal unit, which includes their quarterback Tony Romo as the field goal holder. First of all, Romo should not be doing this job. When he was the back-up QB, fine, but as soon as he became the starting QB they should have got someone else to hold the ball (Bledsoe maybe??). Suddenly my stomach turned upside down. I don’t know why, but I had a bad feeling, even though it should have been an automatic 3 points. I could barely watch.

The ball is snapped…..there’s a split second of confusions….and then you see the ball rolling on the ground.

Romo fumbled the snap.

He quickly picked it up and tried to run it in. He could have easily got a touchdown, and only needed about a yard for the first down and it would have been over. But the Seahawks defence stopped him just inches short.

Seahawks win 21-20.

It was now about 3am. How the hell was I supposed to sleep after watching all this?? So I decided to throw back a few glasses of my dad’s homemade wine and hit the sack. I had a terrible sleep, but I doubt it was anywhere near as bad as Tony Romo’s slumber.

Watching the post-game interviews was heartbreaking. Romo was holding back the tears as hard as he could, but everyone knows that this has tarnished his entire career, if not ended it. He may never be able to shake the psychological effect of this one slip up.

But Romo, if you’re reading this, I just want you to know that myself and fellow fugaze staff writer and Cowboys fan Mr Wenn are still Romo-sexuals. Without your stellar performance this season the Cowboys wouldn’t have even come close to making the playoffs. Ending the Colts undefeated season back in November was more than any Cowboys fan could ask for. And despite the team’s lack-luster performance in December, you turned it all around last night. You almost achieved the impossible. 1 point and a few inches is the only thing that prevented this. Cowboys fans (well, me and Mr Wenn) hope that you can shake this off and come back next season with Parcells and TO and make some more magic.

And if that doesn’t make you feel better, maybe this little piece of wisdom will - You’re still better than Bledsoe.

German Sex Ed January 4, 2007

Filed under: breaking news — pat fugaze @ 1:07 pm

Ever wonder how our german friends teach their children about the birds and bees? No no, it’s not as simple as the Vögel und die Bienen (that’s how you say birds and bees in german according to my computer’s trusty translator). It’s a little more graphic than that. All this from the germans - who would have thought??
